Privacy policy

Wortblick does not collect, send, sell or share any personal data. Everything the extension does happens on your device.

This policy covers the Wortblick browser extension and this website. Wortblick is responsible for both. Contact: wortblickde@gmail.com.

What the extension handles, on your device only

• The word you look up. When you hold the lookup key (or rest the mouse, in Hover mode), Wortblick reads the word under your mouse and looks it up in the dictionary that comes with the extension. The lookup happens on your device. The word is not stored unless you save it.
• Saved words. When you click Save, Wortblick stores the word, its dictionary entry, the sentence it appeared in, the address of the page and the date. They are kept in your browser’s local storage and are not synced or uploaded.
• Settings. Your lookup key and the sites where you switched Wortblick off, kept in your browser’s local storage.

You can remove saved words in the extension’s popup at any time. Uninstalling Wortblick deletes all of its data from your browser.

What the extension does not do

• It makes no network requests. The dictionary and font come inside the extension, so lookups work without an internet connection.
• No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no cookies.
• It does not read or keep the pages you visit, apart from the word you look up and the sentence of a word you choose to save.

Permissions

• Access to websites: so lookups work on any page you read. The extension only reads the word under your mouse when you ask for a lookup.
• Storage: to keep your settings.
• Active tab: when you open the popup, to show the current site’s name and its on/off switch.

Chrome Web Store user data policy

Wortblick’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. No data is transferred to anyone.

This website

This website is hosted by GitHub Pages. When you visit it, GitHub may process technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site and keep it secure; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. The website itself sets no cookies and uses no analytics.

Your rights

Wortblick holds no personal data about you, so there is nothing to access, correct or delete on our side. Data on your device is under your control, as described above. If you have questions about privacy, email wortblickde@gmail.com.

Changes

If this policy changes, for example when new features are added, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Any feature that sends data off your device will be described here before it is released.
